Emotional Support Student Volunteers in MDS Classroom (3/28/2012)
By Jenny Happel, Special Education Teacher, Easton Area High School
Radisha Holmes is an 11th grade student in the Emotional Support class at Easton Area High School. Radisha is currently enrolled in the Health and Related Services Program at CIT. Radisha excels in this program and enjoys working with others.
During this school year, Radisha has volunteered every other day in the Multiple Disabilities Support class. She has developed a special bond with the students in this class and the staff in that classroom really enjoys her help. Radisha has especially bonded with a student in the class named Ray, who looks forward to seeing her. Radisha often takes time out of school to visit Ray at his home. During a recent visit, his grandmother showed a picture of the two of them that Ray keeps on his desk. Ray is not able to express his thanks and care for Radisha’s time verbally, but his face lights up when she walks into the room.
Radisha looks forward to her time volunteering in the MDS class. She has also recently volunteered at the Special Olympics held at Easton Area High School. Radisha looks forward to continuing her time volunteering for the rest of this school year and throughout her senior year. She would like to pursue a career in nursing, particularly working with babies and children.
