Young Athlete's Program

In collaboration with Northampton County Special Olympics, CIU 20 is proud to offer the "Young Athletes" program at Colonial Early Center.  In addition to the annual Early Intervention Special Olympics Field Day, this afterschool program meets the second Wednesday of every month from 4:00 to 4:45 PM.  Children are transported to and from the sessions by their family, and family members remain at the school during the session.
All athletes between the ages of 2 ½ and 7 years of age are welcome to attend.  The Young Athletes program focuses on fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, striking/batting, balancing, kicking, jumping, walking and running.  These fundamental skills are the foundation for participation in later Special Olympics events including the Early Intervention Field Day and other events offered through the school-aged program.
Participating in the afterschool program serves to provide the children with additional opportunities to practice gross and fine motor activities outside of the typical school day, but is not a requirement for children to participate in the annual Field Day.

Each athlete must have a current registration form to participate in the Young Athletes program.  This form takes the place of the previous medical form, and will also be used for other preschool Special Olympics programs, including the Field Day in June.
The form will be held on file throughout the child's time in the preschool program, and will permit them to attend the Young Athletes afterschool program and/or the Field Day in June.
