From Creek to Classroom: A STEELS Watershed Immersion for Educators
- May 12, 2026
- 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
- Description: Join us at Lafayette College to explore how landscapes and
human activities influence watershed processes and river water
quality in the Lehigh Valley. Dr. Christa Kelleher, hydrologist and
civil engineer, and Dr. Kenzie Burns, environmental engineer and
water quality specialist, will provide hands-on field investigations
in Bushkill Creek (rain or shine!). Participants will have the
opportunity to put on waders and get in the creek to engage in
STEELS-aligned science and engineering practices while
examining how soil texture, land cover, and water management
impact streamflow and watershed health. Educators will leave
with practical strategies and classroom-ready ideas for
incorporating place-based investigations, data analysis, and
technology into STEELS-aligned instruction.
