Save the Date for our 26-27 Keystone Competition Kickoff: October 28, 2026

A FREE, one-day STEM challenge for students in grades 7-8 and student in grades 9-12!

No prep is required—bring your creativity and problem-solving skills. Work in teams of up to 4 students to tackle real-world challenges, design innovative solutions, and showcase their ideas. It’s a hands-on, fun experience with no barriers to participation—get ready to innovate and inspire!

2026-2027 CIU 20 Keystone Competition Information
Competition Date: October 28, 2026
Location: TBD
Fee: Free!
Participants must provide their own lunch
 
Registration will be open from September 29, 2026- October 13, 2026! 
Registration Deadline: October 13, 2026

Participant confirmation will be sent out by end of day October 16, 2026

The competition will run from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Teams registration begins at 8:30am.

9:30-9:45      Challenge Announced

9:45-10:00    Engineering Design Process/ Planning Phase

10:00-12:00  Team Collaboration and Design

12:00-1:30    Judging & Lunch

1:30-2:00       Awards & Dismissal

 
Guidelines for Tournament 
  1. Participating school district/diocese must be from the CIU 20 catchment area. Each grade band may register 2 teams. 
  2. Students in grades 7-8 and in grades 9-12 may enter the tournament. Students will be in separate but simultaneous competitions based on grade span competition. 
  3. Advisors will be notified after registration closes as to the status of their students' registration, especially the waiting list.
  4. As much as we would love to welcome parents, our building capacity cannot accommodate that many people. 
  5. Computers are permitted!
